Olympic swimming great Phelps coming out of retirement

Michael Phelps is coming out of retirement, the first step toward swimming at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The 22-time Olympic medallist will compete for the first time since the 2012 London Olympics at a meet in Mesa, Arizona, on April 24-26. One And Done?

Maybe Shaun White was right all along. An International Olympic Committee official charged with monitoring injury rates at the games says the new discipline of slopestyle produced an "unacceptably high" number of injuries in its debut at the Sochi Olympics and should be dropped in future if that doesn't improve. Battling Back

The agent for five-time Olympic gold medallist Ian Thorpe says the 31-year-old Australian will never swim again after contracting two potentially-deadly infections while undergoing shoulder surgery. James Erskine said Tuesday that Thorpe was "quite sick" in a Sydney hospital but dismissed media reports the swimmer might lose the use of his left arm. Full Story.

 

Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics
